Cruche en grès grossier (Bellarmine) à glaçure saline tavelée brune à l’extérieur. Motif d’homme barbu sur le col et médaillon sur l’épaule. Utilisé en Nouvelle-France, il pouvait contenir du vin, de l’huile, du vinaigre ou de l’eau-de-vie. Le personnage du médaillon représentait le cardinal Roberto Bellarmino, un jésuite connu pour ses controverses théologiques.

Salt-glazed coarse stoneware (Bellarmine) jug with speckled brown exterior. Bearded man design on the neck and medallion on the shoulder. In New France, it could be used to hold wine, oil, vinegar or spirits. The figure on the medallion is Cardinal Roberto Bellarmino, a Jesuit known for his theological controversies.
