The front of the slab has an ornamented cross surrounded by stylalized creatures some of which are intertwined. The rear of the slab are some pictish symbols at the top with a battle scene below. In 685AD the battle of Dunnichen was fought between some of the Picts and groups under Northumberland influence, the Picts decisively won, pushing the Northumbrians out of the area. This slab was not carved until the 9th century a long time after the battle. The scene is carved in relief and light incision to give a 3d effect.
