More model informationOregonian Marie Rustin donated a pair of Chinese shoes to the Horner Museum in 1947. Rustin was a nurse and missionary who lived in China for 20 years prior to 1936. The shoes were worn by Mrs. Rustin’s servant, Mrs. Ts’ui. While working for Rustin, Mrs. Ts’ui not only decided to convert to Christianity, but was also influenced by Rustin to unbind her feet. After the corrective procedure, Ts’ui presented the shoes to Rustin “saying she no longer had any use for them and perhaps (she) would like to show them to (her) American friends.”
Oregon State University intern (MS Applied Anthropology) Katie Nuss created the 3d model with the help of Alex Nyers (Northwest Archaeometrics) in February 2017.
