More model informationRelief of the front of a child’s sarcofagus. The head of the dead child is depicted on a medallion held up by two winged cupids. A medallion of shield of this kind is also called a clipeus, and the portrait is referred to as an imagi clipeata. A fruit basket is shown under the medallion. The cupids are wearing a cloack.
Noteworthy are the holes and grooves in the marble - in the hair of the cupids among other places - indicating that the sculptor used a drill. Based on the artistic style of the work, the relief has been dated to the end of the 3rd century AD.
