More model informationThis 3D model of a carpenter’s or shipwright’s bevel, used to mark angles on wood, was found on the Burroughs Wreck (18th century; NCUAB# 0007EDS), excavated in Edenton Harbor, NC by ECU faculty Dr. Bradley Rodgers and Dr. Annalies Corbin in March 2001. The site is named after local resident Gil Burroughs. One side of the bevel contains the markings, “ID,” which might relate to the owner of the tool. It has an overall length of 241 mm (9.5 in), is 25 mm (1 in) wide by 19 mm (0.75 in) deep. See “Shipwreck in a swamp: the Burroughs site at Edenton, N. Carolina, USA,” in the International Journal of Nautical Archaeology (https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1095-9270.2002.tb01416.x) for more information. (ECU artifact #EB0009)
