Marine animal forests are benthic communities dominated by sessile suspension feeders (such as Eunicella cavolini, the white gorgonian populating the reconstructed piece of seafloor) able to generate 3D frameworks with high structural complexity. The biodiversity and functioning of marine animal forests are strictly related to their 3D complexity (Rossi et al., 2021).
The MPA-ENGAGE project aims to support MPA managers to monitor the ongoing climate change effects in the Mediterranean. This pointcloud was produced in the framework of the development and application of the Photogrammetry MPA engage protocol, which will allow to characterize habitat complexity and distribution patterns of populations of key species and track their changes over time.
