More model informationThe 18th Indiana Light Artillery Battery recieved 3-inch Ordinance Rifles in 1862 including this “Lilly Gun”. This type of Ordinance rifle was the most widley used cannon during the Cival War.
The gun’s tube is 73” long and weighs 816 lbs, with a bore diameter of 3” and a range of 1,850 yards. The gun was deadly accurate up to a mile; during the Battle of Atlanta, a Confederate gunner observed “The Yankee 3” rifle was a dead shot at any distance under a mile. They could hit the head of a flour barrel more often than miss, unless the gunner got rattled.”
