More model informationThe Campo del Cielo strewn field is possibly the largest known iron meteorite fall. Several tonnes of material were found in the north of Argentina. On of the earliest records dates to 1576, when a military expedition was dispatched to the region Piguem Nonralta, which the Spanish translated as Campo del Cielo (or: ‘Field of Heaven’). The area is home to a strewn field with several impact craters estimated to be about 4,200-4,700 years old. The largest known fragment is the ‘Gancedo’ meteorite that was unearthed in 2016, weighting in at about 30,8 metric tonnes. In contrast, this 3D model was created of a much smaller specimen that weights 2.927 kg and has longest dimension of 16.5 cm.
