This is a human heart that was donated for research. This 3D reconstruction of the cardiac tissue shows the whole heart from a 59 year old female with a history of emphysema, hypertension, CAD, hyperlipidemia, history of severe falls, and diabetes. The calcification due to CAD is highlighted in this model. As shown, there were numerous calcium deposits in the left anterior descending (LAD) artery and several smaller deposits in the right coronary artery (RCA) and circrumflex artery.
We partner with LifeSource to receive donated organs deemed not viable for transplant and the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program to work with organs that were donated for Medical Education and Research.
