Building 103 was a classroom building used during WWII to teach students of the Military Intelligence Service Language School (MISLS). The Japanese Language School trained mainly Japanese Americans to become interpreters and interrogators during the war. They studied the Japanese language and culture in order to assist in translating wire transmissions and captured documents. Students of the language school were brought to Minnesota from internment camps, where it was thought they would be less likely to encounter racism. Here, they trained like other soldiers in the military and aided in the war effort. Many went on to help in the effort overseas as well.
Model created as part of a project led by Professor Kat Hayes, University of Minnesota.
