More model informationA stone mould for producing medieval buckles. The mould is double sided and there would have been at least three elements when complete.
One one face is the moulds for three double loop buckles and three circular loops, the second face has has moulds for three circular looks and one rectangular double loop buckle.
These buckles were particularly popular in from c. AD 1450-1650 yet in contrast surviving evidence for their production is rare. It is likely the buckles from this mould were for shoes.
The mould has been laser scanned as part of a collaborative project between Southampton Cultural Services and the Department of Archaeology at the University of Southampton
