More model informationThis is the tomb of Edward of Woodstock, the eldest son of King Edward III, and heir to the English throne. He died in 1376, a week before his 46th birthday and almost exactly a year before his father. This meant Edward of Woodstock’s son, Richard II, was to succeeded to the throne when he was only 10 years old.
Edward of Woodstock is one of only two members of the Royal Family to have been burried at Canterbury Cathedral. The other is Henry IV, Edward’s nephew, who disposed Richard II from the throne in 1399. He rests in a tomb directly oposite Edward of Woodstock.
