More model informationA elevation model of Black Point rath with the 1st edition OS map (1889) overlaid. Although a considerable amount of the fort had probably been lost by this time it does show the curving bank and external ditch.
In 1981 the Ancient Monument Inspector recorded that “this was a fine promontory fort, but that in places several fractures had cut through the earthworks”.
By 2002 the site was noted to be in a perilous state with much of the interior already lost.
It is clear the site is at immediate risk of falling into the sea.
