“¿Quien es?” were the last words he spoke, but not the last words he heard. As his life slipped between his hands, words he’d never forget echoed in his ears: “No, it’s him. I’d know that voice anywhere.” Well, he could say the same.
And then–well, best not dwell on what happened next. If it all fell apart, he’d be back there soon enough anyway. Enough to say that if each moment down there were an eternity, his suffering was older than the world itself.
But he was The Kid, and he knew how to cut a deal, though how much of a “deal” it was remained to be seen, considering he’d “sold” his soul to someone who already had it. From his view, he was coming out on top–metaphorically and, he thought as his boney hands brushed soil off his worm-eaten clothes, quite literally.
