Bifurcating dyke at Bingie Bingie Point3D Model
This image shows a dyke that has bifurcated (or split) during intrusion. The host rock here is the Tuross Head Tonalite. The main dyke is basaltic in character, and has intersected and offset an ealier dacitic dyke. On first looks, it appears the dyke has been faulted, but no fault propagates into the adjacent tonalite and the small apophyses of of the basaltic dyke are also unaffected. During intrusion, the dacitic dyke has been offset in a dextral motion, which is opposite to the apparent sinistral motion of the basaltic dyke. Because of the dyke bifurcation, and dilation during intrusion, there is, in effect as short transform fault with dextral motion which extends from the two margins of the basaltic dyke on either side.
The two measuring poles are both 1 metre with the labelled one poiting north (6) - both are horizontal.
