When Finland was part of the Russian empire as a Grand Duchy, the civil servants had uniforms reminiscent of the Russian military uniform. The uniform showed the position of the official in the ranking system. The 1854 model of postmaster’s uniform included a bicorne hat. This hat (PM-ES-466) was used by postmaster Frithiof Öhberg from 1885 to 1903 when he worked at the post offices of Viapori, Kristiinankaupunki, Tammisaari and Porvoo.
