Stone on Bellshiel Law, NW of Rochester, Northumberland.
Positioned about 200 metres NW of the long cairn, this stone is referenced ‘Bellshiel Law 1g’ on the Beckensall Archive (BA), where the motifs are described as ‘two cups, one dubious’. NADRAP recorded the stone a few years later, noting 2008:
‘The two possible cup marks are small and deep, but show no other adornment and may have been form naturally. There are other depressions in this and other adjacent rocks…’
Whilst natural formation can’t be entirely ruled out, one of the cups appears to be placed centrally on a rounded raised area. This is a characteristic seen at other rock art sites throughout the UK.
