Mid nineteenth century brass ship’s bell from ps Orion with ornamental attachment for fixing. Recovered from the wreck of the ps Orion which was built by Messrs. Caird & Co. of Greenock in 1847.
Orion was built by Caird & Company Greenock, yard No 14 with engines by Caird & Company Greenock. She was launched on Saturday, 19 December 1846. Her owner was G. & J. Burns Ltd., Glasgow. She was lost on the 18 June 1850 on the Outer Ward Rock, near Portpatrick, while on the passage from Liverpool to Greenock and many of those on board were drowned.
