Bealach nan Corp - carved (?) rock. This has now been classified in ScRAP as a carved rock as it is not strictly in the tradition of cup & ring rock art but it perhaps appears more likely to have been pecked out in the same manner as tradiditional cup & ring marks. It’s up at a height of 650m on the Bealach nan Corp on the northern shoulder of Ben Ledi.
What is interesting is the folklore associated with this location. This is the reputed route of an old coffin road from Glen Finglas over the bealach to the burial ground of St. Bride down on shore of Loch Lubnaig. Legend has it that a burial party got lost here in a winter storm and strayed onto the frozen surface of the nearby Lochan nan Corp. The ice gave way drowning most of the local clan. Perhap this mark (resembling an eye) was made to show the correct route to take over the bealach after this reputed tragedy?
