Boulder found in the Rowley Intake area of Barningham Moor, County Durham. This carving was first noted by Paul Brown in 2000, and was referenced ‘BAR3b’ in his and Barbara Brown’s 2008 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art in the Northern Dales’. They describe the motifs as:
“11 cups, one encompassed by singe ring and another by partial ring, isolated cups are linked by grooves”
A number of small cairns are found in the vicinity, although it isn’t clear whether these collections of stones are prehistoric or not. A ring cairn is found on lower ground to the west.
Unfortunately, NADRAP were informed about this site after project data had already been submitted to ADS for inclusion on ERA. Therefore it went unrecorded by the project and doesn’t have a record on ERA.
This model is created from 8 random images captured by Richard Stroud in November 2008.
