Rock with cup-like depressions found north of Eel Hill, on Barningham Moor, County Durham.
First identified during NADRAP surveys on Barningham Moor, this stone can be found in a scheduled area containing numerous other carved rocks, a cairn field and rubble banks. Referenced ‘Barningham Moor 31’ on ERA, the team record:
“On the surface, 11 worn, cup-like depressions are scattered about the stone, although some could be interpreted as being in clusters. Proximity to other rock art makes this worthy of recording.”
Whilst some of the depressions are almost certainly natural, the 3d model does show that others are cup-like and difficult to rule out.
