Small rock found in the Scale Knoll Allotment area of Barningham Moor, County Durham.
This panel is thought to be reference 10 in Beckensall and Laurie’s 1998 publication, ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale’. It forms part of scheduled prehistoric walling and has numerous cup-like depressions on the north facing slope. Although, the markings on this rock aren’t specifically mentioned.
The NADARAP team weren’t particularly convinced by the authenticity of all the markings on this stone. This model does show secondary fracturing around some ‘cup’ edges, often a characteristic of bullet impacts.
