This square stone sits in a cluster of other carvings north of Eel Hill, on Barningham Moor, County Durham.
Referenced 20 in Beckensall & Laurie’s 1998 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale’, it was recorded as ‘Barningham Moor 128’ by NADRAP and added to ERA in 2008. The NADRAP team describe:
“A block of stone with four vertical, possibly dressed sides. Three extremely shallow circular depressions of varying size can be seen towards the south end of the stone, the largest has a diameter of 0.04m and smallest 0.03m. Whether they are extremely eroded artificial cups or just natural weathering is difficult to determine. Five other carved stones are within 20 meters west.”
