Ban Ama dan Bei
English: This artifact is made of agarwood in the form of reliefs by the Asmat Papuan tribe. Ornaments in the form of organic stylized motifs in the form of symbols of Ban or human hands which are carved on shields in order to gain victory in hunting and war. This ornament is also carved on the pole so that the ancestors maintain the peace of the owner’s house. The Asmat community considers the hand as the center of power. The Ama motif means a pair of hands and a symbol of strength to carry out life. Ban Ama means hands which are limbs that can do all kinds of work. In carving the decorative motifs, Ban is intended as a symbol of warlords or the summoning of ancestral spirits. Bei means feet are often shown on shields, war trumpets and boats, seen as a symbol of courage.
