EN - This tower or almenara of Muslim origin had as its mission to watch over one of the roads leading to the passes of the Sierra de Guadarrama which in 711 was used by Tariq for its advance through the northern part of the Iberian Peninsula. The watchtower takes its name from the hackberry, a tree that is also known as lodón or lotonero and that was abundant in its enclave. By extension, the hamlet that arose at his feet ended up being called Torrelodones.
