Area B, Pre-Excavation, Khirbat al-Jariya3D Model
This model depicts Area B at Khirbat al-Jariya in the Faynan region of southern Jordan prior to excavation in 2014. Archaeologists chose this area to excavate based on the large mound of stones visible here, located at the highest point at the middle of the site. Members of the Edom Lowlands Regional Archaeology Project team suspected that this mound was what remains of a large, collapsed structure that might have served as an administrative headquarters for copper production at the site.
Ultimately, excavation revealed a multi-room structure containing many lines of evidence for social complexity and administration of copper production at the site.
