Ardcrony Graveyard Mary Reddan3D Model
Late 18th-century headstone marking the grave of Michael Hough in Ardcrony graveyard (TN015-015004-), Co. Tipperary. The headstone was erected by his wife Mary Reddan. The inscription is framed within a bevelled border, and running lozenge motif above. The Crucifixion with spear and ladder to the side of Christ. represents the Instruments of the Passion or the Arma Christi (Weapons of Christ). The naive carving of the crucifixion depicts Christ on the cross with outstretched arms, round circular face with circular-shaped eyes, nose and mouth with nimbus or sunburst behind the head of Christ. His breasts are represented by two circular shaped discs, the belly button is depicted by an inverted heart-shaped motif. A loincloth or perizoma is carved in relief runs across his waist, his feet are depicted apart toes downwards. The crucifixion is flanked either side by two flowering plants, with naive skull and cross-bones. A banner with motto frames these symbols with soul-effigies either side of the banner.
