Ardcrony Doughan Headstone3D Model
19th-century headstone of Jouhn Doughan who died in 1812, standing inside the nave of the medieval church ruins (TN015-015001-) in Ardcrony graveyard (TN015-015004-), Co. Tipperary. The top of the headstone is decorated with a floriated I H S Christogram. The bottom left of the headstone is signed with the initials R R (Reddan) of the stonecutter who carved this memorial. A Christogram is a monogram or combination of letters that forms an abbreviation for the name of Jesus Christ. The name Jesus, spelt ΙΗΣΟΥΣ in Greek capitals, has the abbreviations IHS (also written JHS, IHC, or ΙΗΣ). The inscription is framed by a border or running lozenges, which also forms a border around the Christogram. The floriated Latin Cross rising from the cross-bar of the H has expanded terminals flanked by flowering plants. Possible farm tools carved into top left corner of the panel with the inscription. May be a single-eared spade & rake overlapping each other to form a cross, possibly the tools of the trade of the deceased.
