Ardcrony Church (TN015-015001- ) Chancel Arch3D Model
Chancel arch of the multi-period church ruins (TN015-015001- ) in Ardcrony graveyard (TN015-015004-), Co Tipperary. The nave & chancel church consist of a multi-period building with a tower house (TN015-015002) on the west end. The chancel arch has a slot running along the underside of the arch which may have supported the chancel screen dividing the chancel/east end of the church from the nave/west end of the church. This slot was filled in when the chancel screen became redundant. There is evidence for 2 rooflines in the historic fabric above the chancel arch. The springing of the stone vaulted roof of the chancel is visible at the top of the north and south walls of the chancel. In church architecture, the chancel is the space around the altar which is reserved for the clergy. Ffrom Late Latin cancellus lattice, or cancelli; from the latticework screen dividing the chancel from the nave. the word nave is used to describe the part of the church used by the lay people. Medieval Latin navis, ship.
