Description: Phosphorite is lithified phosphate-rich sediments, which includes coprolites, the fossil excrement of fishes, reptiles, and mammals. Coprolites are composed largely of calcium phosphate. It is the very symmetrical hemisphere of a crushed and unpolished spherical nodule. The unpolished face shows the radial growth of the phosphate blades. Rounded nodules, such as this, are rare from any worldwide locality.
