More model informationExperimental 3D model of a sod wall in East Otago, New Zealand made using photogrammetry. These features were constructed prior to 1900 and as such are protected archaeological sites in New Zealand. Remaining sod walls from this period are rare, and those that survived did so due to the wetter coastal climate and protection from commercial forestry cover. As forests are harvested these walls once again become exposed and will deteriorate. Continued protection of these walls is logistically impossible, and photogrammetry or laser scanning provides a viable alternative, preserving them as a digital 3D model.
