I’ve come across several cup marked rocks in the Vale Fuzeiros area of the Algarve recently. This one is at the base of the southern side of a large rocky outcrop which tops a small knoll. The rock has a big hole through its vertical North face and so I have termed it Rocha de Furo - Hole Rock.
It’s a simpler carving than the one on the top area of the rock but it is quite distinctive. There is a vertically orentated oval shape which has a cross incised within it. The vertical of the cross extends downwards below the oval and has a second, far smaller, oval shape at its termination. The small oval is orientated horizontally. The horizontal arms of the cross do not quite meet either the vertical line or the perimeter of the oval that encloses them.
