This ground-level, outcrop of rock is on a minor ridge which extents downwards from the Pedreirinha rock-cut tombs to Quinta Peneda, near Vale Fuzeiros. I first noticed the two relatively prominent large cup marks on the rock, which was under a scrub bush and covered in soil and moss. On cleaning, a number of carved footprints were gradually & surprisingly revealed. There are other marks on the rock, including a group of knife/tool sharpening gauges.
Further analysis of the 3D model in different renderings has shown around 13 prints. I suspect these are not particularly old, since there is also an ‘R’ shape carved on the rock (not seen on this model). However, it is intriguing why these should have been carefully carved on a rock already having cup marks which may be thousands of years old upon it. The rock is in an obscure place and I’m sure long forgotton but was it once more widely known locally and had some sort of tradition attached to it?
