More model informationThe Akaganemon Gate was the main gate of Odawara Castle’s Ninomaru area during the Edo period (1603-1868), and stood tall throughout the Edo period until it was dismantled in 1872 after Odawara Castle was closed in 1870. The name “Akagane” comes from the fact that copper was used for the decorative metal fittings used for the main doors and other parts of the gate.
The current Aakagemon Gate constructed in 1997 based on excavations conducted since 1983, old photographs, and drawings, and was restored using the original construction method in the form of a masugimon, which is a combination of a square-shaped stone wall, an inner partition gate, and a turret gate.
