More model informationThe central enclosure is the focal point of the Ahu a ‘Umi heiau complex. The enclosure is rectangular in shape with an entrance incorporated into the northern section of the enclosure. The main enclosure walls are constructed of stacked basalt slabs that were excavated from nearby pāhoehoe exposures. The enclosure also contains an interior dividing wall extending across the long axis of the enclosure, creating a small enclosed corridor within the western portion of the structure. Two low walls extend from the enclosure’s entrance creating a V-shaped chute into the enclosure. It is believed that the chute and interior partition are late-1800s historic modifications associated with ranching activities.
