More model informationCarved agate turtle. Agate is banded chalcedony, with the colours derived from minor impurities. Pure chalcedony is microcrystalline silica (SiO₂). The structure is mostly that of α-quartz, but recently has been found to have moganite (monoclinic structured SiO₂) present. The density is also often lower that that of quartz due to pore spaces present.
