More model informationThis specimen is from a Carboniferous glacial sequence exposed in a disused in the Hunter Valley (NSW, Australia). The quarry contains tillites, varved shales, mudstones and dropstones, all recorded as a transgressive sequence. The shales are not your typical varves, and contain some sandy lenses, which are visble in this specimen. Each ‘set’ in varved shales represents an annual cycle of spring thaw followed by more icy conditions, and typically occur in glacial lakes. Scale: Specimen is ~95×55×40 millimetres.
