This is a multi-phase farmstead on the coastal fringe of Lionacleit, South Uist. It has undergone several different iterations, re-using the masonry in a variety of ways, from farmstead, through sheep fank and dipping facility to its most recent use as a storage area for unwanted materials anf detritus. The dipping tank is still in reasonable condition, but decommissioned and boulder-filled to prevent injury to visitors or stock.
It seems likely that there have been at least three farmhouses across the site iat different times over the past 200 years or so.
The watercourse to the west is now one of the main drains controlling water levels on Benbecula, with the help of suice-gates, but in earlier times it was the main access from the sea into the linked lochs allowing goods to be transported through the island to Baile Mhanaich
A range-pole is on the grass to the East (right) of the dipping tank
