The fourth and last Tay Ferry to be built in the Caledon Shipyard, Dundee, motor vessel Scotscraig was launched on 23 May 1951, completed her trials in August that same year and entered service the following month. Constructed on similar lines to the Abercraig of 1939, Scotscraig was powered by two English Electric diesel engines which drove a pair of Voith Schneider cycloidal propulsion units. She had increased vehicle capacity over her older sister, reflecting the steady increase in road traffic, and could carry up to 800 passengers. Scotscraig cost her owners, Dundee Harbour Trust, £152,000 (the equivalent of £5 million in 2020). Scotscraig was withdrawn on 18 August 1966, the day the Tay Road Bridge opened, and was sold to S Bezzina & Sons of Malta.
