More model informationLocated in the lower Mississippi Valley, Destrehan Plantation is said to be one of the oldest documented plantation on the River Road. It houses several buildings, including two slave cabins- which were moved from Helvetia Plantation in the spirit of preservation. This model is one of those cabins; it is being used as an office for interpreters at Destrehan Plantation.
It is a typical two-room wooden cabin with a central brick chimney that opens to both rooms and a porch, characteristic of slave and tenant cabins in Louisiana.
